We selected Liberty apples because of their great taste and ultra disease resistance. They were developed in 1955 by the New York Agricultural Experiment Station from the much loved Macoun apple.
Macoun’s are famous in the northeast for their unique and sought-after flavor, but they are hard to grow because they are susceptible to many diseases. Liberty is one of the foremost disease resistant apples on the market today.
Liberty is considered to be a dessert apple, and it will make a delicate pink applesauce. At maturity it is a deep red color. They hold their shape well when baked.
Liberty has a balanced sweet-tart taste with hints of citrus and melon. They will become more mellow in taste in storage. They keep 3-4 months when properly stored.
Liberty is a great choice for those who do not want to spray, who want an apple tree that requires little upkeep, or who may be new to orcharding and want a tree that is easy to grow.
