Crimson Crisp is an exceptional fresh-eating apple that will last for 4-6 months with proper storage. It has deep crimson skin, and yellow subacid flesh, with a crisp sweet taste. It was introduced in 2004 and is disease resistant to apple scab and moderately resistant to rust. Crimson Crisp has been taking the fresh market by storm because many apple lovers are finding Crimson Crisp’s flavor to be superior to Honey Crisp. The picking window can be up to five weeks with this apple, and it is not prone to falling from the tree before ripening like Honey Crisp. Crimson Crisp can be used for both fresh eating and baking.

Crimson Crisp is not quite as cold hardy as our other offerings, but it will grow here in Garrett County. You will want to plant this one in full sun but where it has a little bit of a wind-block.

Most of the trees you buy in the store that grow to this shorter semi-dwarf size are on EMIL 7 rootstock. EMIL 7 rootstock has to have support throughout the life of the tree, or the tree could fall over with a heavy apple fruiting or in a wind or snow storm. We put your tree on a more expensive, designer rootstock that will anchor itself into the ground the same way the 18′ to 20′ Semi Dwarf tree rootstocks do. Plus, it has superior disease resistance and is more cold-hardy. It costs more, but you are so worth it, and we want to give your tree the best chance for long-term survival.

Pollinate with Fuji, Nova Spy, Northern Spy, GoldRush, Golden Delicious, Wolf River and Summer Rambo.
