The main attributes that brought Sunrise from the research testing plot to the market are it’s flavor and its ability to tolerate wetter, heavier soils.

Plants will tolerate more moisture and heavier soils than most blueberries. It is cold-tolerant to zone 4.

Berries are large in size with good flavor. Berries are firm with only a small picking scar.

Fruit buds and stems of this cultivar can survive temperatures as low as -26 degrees F for long periods.

Easy of harvest of the berries is a notable characteristic in addition to it’s good flavor.

Stardust is self-fertile, so it can pollinate itself. It blooms a little later than most cherries, which is good for Garrett County. Its fruit is ripe in July.

Fruit is yellow with a nice orange blush. The flesh is white and very sweet.

Stardust is extremely popular and often sells for higher prices than some other fruit varieties.

Be aware that this Stardust tree is on a different rootstalk from last year, and the tree will grow taller. Last year’s Stardust could also tolerate clay soil, whereas the one this year cannot.

Tree is self-fertile and does not need a pollinator but it will pollinate both Kristen and Montmorency. At maturity tree will be 18′ to 22′ tall. It will NOT grow in heavy clay soil, but it will be more tolerant of drought conditions. Tree will not need support when mature. Ripens in July.
